creative director
The senior creative leader who sets the standard and direction of an agency's ideas and oversees the creative team.
Definition
A creative director is responsible for the quality and coherence of creative output. The role includes shaping ideas, guiding art directors and copywriters, presenting work to clients and deciding what is good enough to leave the building. Some agencies have a single chief creative officer; others have several creative directors by discipline. When pitching, ask how involved the creative director will be in daily work and not just in the presentation. Their approval is only as good as the brief they are given, so involve them early when the project goals change.
